Wellness Wednesday: Letting Go

It’s Wednesday, also known as hump day, but better known around these parts as Wellness Wednesday.

This is a new initiative Wellness, Darling is starting to provide simple tips every week to improve your physical, emotional, and mental health!

Today’s tip is simple: let go.

Often times as we get caught up in the day-to-day stress of our lives, we start letting little things get to us. Whether it’s the person going below the speed limit on the freeway, or the co-worker who can’t seem to do their part, we are confronted daily with situations that are out of our control.

These little situations are frustrating, and the stress they cause can really add up and start affecting other aspects of your day. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to if you just… let go.

You cannot control the thoughts, feelings, or behaviors of other people. You can only control how you respond.

When you encounter a frustrating or stressful situation that you can’t change or fix here are four steps to letting go:

1) Let yourself be frustrated for a minute. Just one minute.
2) Remind yourself that the situation is out of your control.
3) Reassure yourself that everything will work out, and you are choosing to move on and not dwell on it.
4) Focus your energy on something you can control, like going for a walk or working on a project that’s important to you.

Oooooh. See what we did there? Acknowledge the situation. Choose to move on. There’s no dwelling involved. Life is too short to dwell on negative things that are out of your control. Focus on the positive.

Breathe in the good shit, exhale the bad shit. That’s the goal here, Darling.
